Some poems just fall into your head. This was one of those poems: "They Should Have Made Me Inside Out."
It began as a random thought inspired by a mundane activity; I was pulling clothes from the tumble dryer and turning them outside in.
What if we were made inside out: how would people see us then?
They Should Have Made Me Inside Out
My face is plain
My eyes are wrong
My brain is big
My heart is strong
Thy should have made me inside out
My hair’s not cool
My clothes are cheap
My mind is sharp
My dreams are deep
They should have made me inside out
My smile is weak
My lips are thin
My hope is huge
Beneath my skin
They should have made me inside out
