Anti Bullying Poem For Kids. Anti Bullying Week - 'The Different Path'

Walking the Different Path – An Anti Bullying Poem for Kids

When I wrote The Different Path, I wanted to create an anti bullying poem for kids that encourages courage and individuality. The poem speaks to anyone who’s ever felt out of place, reminding them that being different is a strength, not a flaw. I use the image of “sheep” who mock those who “wander off” to show how easy it is for groups to bully someone who dares to think or act differently. But as the poem unfolds, it celebrates resilience — the bravery of walking your own way, and the quiet power that comes when others start to follow your example.

As Anti Bullying Week approaches, I hope The Different Path inspires discussions about kindness, empathy, and self-belief in classrooms and homes. This poem is for the child who feels isolated, the one who hides their uniqueness to fit in, and the one who dreams of being brave enough to “go the other way.” If this poem helps just one young person realise that being different is something to be proud of, then its purpose is fulfilled — because that’s how change begins: one voice, one choice, one different path.

Classroom Activity Idea:

After reading The Different Path, ask pupils to draw or write about what their own “different path” might look like — a road, a trail, or even a metaphorical journey that celebrates what makes them unique. Follow this with a group discussion: Why do people sometimes tease others for being different? and What can we do to make sure everyone feels safe to walk their own path? This activity works beautifully during Anti Bullying Week as part of a wider reflection on inclusion and kindness.
