I Am The Label: a mental health and label poem for students about being labelled and the challenge of removing them

A close up of a barbed wire fence.

I Am The Label

I am the label

someone stitched

into the seams of your soul

years ago

The tailor, only we know

All I'm sure of is

you've been trying to tear me out

ever since

Neither one of us

ever asked for me to be hemmed

into your hippocampus

but how time has taught us

my barbed-wire stitches

are almost impossible to unpick

Almost.

💡Have you ever been labelled? Who was the tailor of your labels? Are labels always a bad thing? I would love you to share your own label poem with me - either a label poem you have written or one you know.
