Hidden Words: Personification Poem about Books and Reading for Kids

Hidden Words
I’ve sat on this shelf
unchosen and dozing
my words hidden from time
since the old library closed
and we all ended up
on cold metal shelves
in the next big town
Unlike me
my neighbours
come and go
off to see
the world outside
to be inferred by new eyes
to see their words reprised
in new light
beyond the library
Oh, how I dream
beyond this shelf
regardless of my worn, torn spine
regardless of my tatty jacket
of shedding new light
into just one more mind
