Before I Close My Curtains – A Thoughtful Space Poem for Kids

Before I Close My Curtains
Every single night
before I close my curtains
after I’ve turned off
my bedside light
I kneel upon my bed
rest my elbows on the windowsill
and cradle in my palms
my sleepy, dreamy head
I always look up to see
if you are looking down at me
from your far off galaxy
to see me looking up at you
from my tiny planet
from her fragile crust
of basalt and granite
Then
as your starry wink
4000 light years away
twinkles
caught in my glassy blink
I feel my inner space
and your outer space
sync
There’s harmony
in you and me
star and boy
boy and star
wandering through the universe
pondering as we both traverse
why or what we are
